Vista does not recognize the devices which are in FAT 32 format that may be the reason for the USB device not getting recognized, you may have to convert the device to NTFS format, follow the steps to convert the device to NTFS format: Click Start>>type in Device Manager in the Start search>>expand Disk Drives to find USB device>>Right click the drive>>select Properties>>then go to the Policies tab >>select the 'Optimize for performance' option and Click OK, then do the format, and select NTFS. Best Answer: 256mb = 1/4 gb 512mb = 1/2 gb 1024mb = 1gb id suggest getting a 2 or 4gb flash drive depending on what you want to use it for. If your saving documents for school and at home and not much else, id go with the 2gb or even 1gb. You could also go for something like a 4 or 8gb if you want to put bigger files on it (music, videos,etc.) but id suggest a 2gb so you can change your mind and always add a few things if you want. Make sure you get a good one too and not some cheap one off eBay or from the dollar store. Go to officemax or some place where you can get insurance for it so you dont waste your money! If you want to get an 8 or 16gb flashdrive, i strongly reccomend you get insurance for it too because if you make one bad move with it you could waste all your money on it and lose your data on it (corrupt from unsafe eject or some other reason). It's not 1/5; it's 1/4; 1024 MB is one GB.

Simple math says it's EXACTLY 1/4th. 256 MB is 1/4 of a GB. 256 MB USB drives are really old; you barely see them anymore. I recommend at least a 1 GB USB Flashdrive; it's really cheap and is actually still there lol.

8 or 16 gigabytes? They are more expensive, so don't get that much. Get as much as you need. If you use for school/work, a 1 GB should be enough, at most 2 or 4 GB. Whatever the case, buy at least a 1 GB, it's better than a 256 MB, 4x the space, etc.
